  • What's the worst Mountain/Hill in ADK

I know the climb out of Blue Mountain Lake looks bad but it really wasn't.
I can think of some tougher climbs. I'm not a fast rider but when my speed drops below 5mph its steep. Based on this criteria here are my worst.
    1. Climb on Blue Ridge RD coming from Northway heading towards Newcomb
    2. Goodnow Flow Road - climb from the Flow (part dirt)
    3. Horseshoe Lake - coming from RT30 the short bend leaving lake

A friend told me about a hill heading from Keene towards LK Placid that he thought was bad.

    Anyone have any others?

Whichever hill you are currently pedaling up.

        j/k

sorry, I don't have a real answer for you, but the one by BML sure does look tough.

North River to Indian Lake is no picnic either.

            Hmmm...
            Whiteface access road...
Around here (Capital District AKA Albany) many brag about Blue Factory Rd., I didn't find it to be all that!
Toughest climb that I've done around home is Crawford Rd off of Rt 5S in Rotterdam Junction, not the longest climb around, but a steady 10% average grade for 2.5 miles...no flats, no downhills, just steady, steady climbing.

Luzerne Mountain Road from the Glens Falls side.
              Route 8 up from Hague.
Coolidge Hill Road and Trout Lake Road in Bolton Landing.
(and while we are talking downstate, Long Hill Road in Briarcliff; Stevens Avenue in Hawthorne.)

Not in the Adks, but I agree with stripperguy - Crawford Rd is a good workout - no breaks and continuously steep. Nice loops available once you make it to the top. Best climb in the capital district.

                  2. Goodnow Flow Road - climb from the Flow (part dirt)

Fyi, Goodnow Flow road is 100% paved as of 4/12

Thanks for the info Bucknut. Funny, I was just at the spring filling up and saw new pavement and wondered if it went all the way to the Flow. I'll try it in two weeks.

I redid the Goodnow Flow run last week. Paving didn't make it any easier getting up that hill! I noticed that the gate to Gooley club road was gone.

Are any of these climbs listed as Strava segments, does anyone know?
