  • Chubb River

Has anyone paddled the Chubb River recently? Interested in about a 3-4 mile section of the river that goes to the left of the put-in at the Averyville Road bridge (still don't know if it's up river or down river-is there a way to automatically tell?). Are there any other beautiful quiet water paddling places close by? We are not spring chickens. Need fairly easy put-ins but have wonderful Placidboats! Thanks much.

Left, downstream takes you to a lake with a private dam that failed a few years back. Best to run upstream, then have the current to carry you back to the put-in. There is a ~ 1/4 mile carry about three miles up at a rock garden, carry trail is on the left side as you approach. Above there are a couple beaver dams before entering a magical swamp surrounded by High Peaks.

Do you have the book _Adirondack Paddling: 60 Great Flatwater Adventures_ by Phil Brown? It's a great resource for the kind of thing you're seeking.
