Back roads, dirt roads, main roads? RT 30 has good shoulders. RT 8 also is good for the most part, between Wevertown and Loon Lake it narrows up. RT 10 through Arietta is a beautiful ride with good shoulders. I'm not a fan of RT 28 but RT 28N is good. So just off the cuff start in Gloversville, RT 29A to RT 10 to RT 8 to RT 30 north to Long Lake to RT 28N through Newcomb to North Creek. Decisions: Take RT 8 back to RT 30 and south to Gloversville OR: from North Creek find Oven Mountain Road and take that across RT 8 and south through Thurman, it's easy to find your way over to Stoney Creek and ride around the Great Sacandaga Lake through Broadalbin and to RT 30 North and aside road back to Gloversville. This is pretty much all on main Adirondack roads with decent shoulders. You can find plenty of side roads. Have fun, it's a great place to ride!
      Gloversville: Mohawk Harvest Co-Op
      Meco: Stump City Brewing
      Caroga Lake: Vrooman's (Wings)
      Pine Lake Lodge (Restaurant)
Arietta Hotel (not sure they're still open)
      Oxbow Inn
      Speculator: Charlie John's
      Indian Lake: Stewart's
      Long Lake: Hoss's
      Newcomb: yup
      Minerva: biker bar
North Creek: Heads in Beds Hostel
      Stony Creek: Stony Creek Inn
      GSL: I-Go-Inn
      Broadalbin: Massage Therapist
      back to Gloversville.
This route has plenty of wild camping, private camp grounds, NYS Campgrounds, Warm Showers, Air BnB, Mom n Pop motels etc...
210 miles that can be expanded on and no killer climbs.

Have you check out Adventure Cycling's map sets? They have one for the Adirondacks:

They're specifically geared towards cyclists, as one might expect from the organization name. :-)

          thanks for the info guys.

i have found a few routes that look interesting. only problem in the climbs, this is gonna be my first big bike trip.
there is a great blog from high peaks cyclery that shows a nice loop but 14000 feet of gain, i checked the charts it doesnt seem like steep climbs, but long 1-2 %incline.

I highly doubt that you're going to find a 200-300 mile route in the park that doesn't have some significant hills. A good option for you might be a route that goes partially around Lake Champlain. You could even do a nice route involving ferries.

            Here is one nice resource

            and a MAP

                14000 ft?
They must be talking distance not elevation
2-3 miles of incline is not that bad on long trips
                Actually shoud be expected
I did 7 miles of incline put a hurt on me but am not an experienced cyclist

There will be climbs. Some steep, some long, some steep and long.

If this is your first trip and you are worried about climbing, I'd suggest maybe doing a few short excursions in the ADKs first, before committing to a loop or more. Typically 30-60' in climbing per mile (on average) is typical for riding in the more scenic areas of MA,VT, and ADKs. That translates to anywhere from 3000-6000' over a 100 mile route. Many more adventurous routes will have more than that.

One of my through rides from Burlington to Utica had ~16k in climbing over ~200 miles.

Even the event I organized around Lake Champlain (in a single day - but makes a great 2 or 3 day trip depending on how much you want to enjoy the scenery) had ~188 miles and 8k in climbing. And alot of that route is 'flat' for VT and the ADKs (pretty much the entire VT side and a portion of the northern NY side are what folks consider 'flat'.
