  • Wilmington Mountain Bike Festival- September 1-3

Anyone going to head up for this?

Should be a great weekend. We're staying at the Cadence Lodge and are looking forward to riding some of the newly built trails and also taking advantage of the free shuttles for Poorman's Downhill.

Some good music on tap Saturday night as well with Gratefully Yours, who doesn't like some Good 'ol Grateful Dead in the mountains?

May have to look into that. My wife and I tried to check out the area last Saturday but the roads were detoured due to a road bike race. We ended up returning to our campsite.
How do the trails rate for difficulty as compared to Daniels Rd. or Spiers Falls/Moreau?

Not as difficult as Spier falls.

There are some sections that are on par with Daniels difficulty (I'm not referring to Sybil)

I would say it's a mix of Daniels and Gurney because there are some extremely fun & fast machine built trails in Wilmington/Lake Placid.

Overall not as technical as the stuff down here in the Saratoga area in terms of the amount of rocks/roots. They do have more elevation to play with so the climbs are well worth the rewards. I would say it would be considered Intermediate riding with options of advanced and of course options for beginner.

I ride 3-4 times per week at either Daniels, Gurney, and other off map trails in our area. Also frequent Pine Hill Park, Green Mtn Trails, have ridden at Kingdom a number of times.

My opinion is that Wilmington/Lake Placid/Saranac has the best riding in NYS.

You should definitely check it out

Sounds like fun. Thanks for the info!
I booked a camp site at Scaroon manor this weekend and plan on giving the North Creek trail system a try. Just tuned up the bike.
If you haven't checked out the Buttermilk area along the Hudson you should. I ride from the Bear slides to Hickory Ski on a pretty regular basis. Lots of fun and never another biker or person around.

I'll look into that, haven't heard of anyone else riding there. What are the trails like? Mostly double track/snowmobile?

Starts out as one lane dirt road, turns to overgrown/ no longer driven dirt road, washed out old road, 4 wheeler type trail, then single track(similar to Gurney with a mix of Spier) and then back. The further in you go the better it gets then you pop out at the end of Hickory ski rd. Most of the way you are right along the river, there's some nice waterfall action to check out.
If you are up for a ride sometime give me a shout. I would say I'm in the intermediate/ old guy range. I hike a bike occasionally but try to power through as much as posssible.
I forget how far it is round trip...approximately 11 miles?

              Anybody else go last weekend?
Wife and I went, although we opted for a hotel room over camping last minute due to the forecast.
Wife enjoyed going on the novice women's ride. Learned some new things ( or at least listened to somebody else tell her the same things I have been trying to teach her..lol)
She is looking forward to next years event.
I enjoyed the trails as well. Will definitely be going back to ride again. Saving up for a bike upgrade for next season as well!!
