  • Goodnow footwear and snow conditions

Looking at Goodnow this weekend. Thinking decent snow cover and the snowshoes would be best bet. Plus warmer temps may soften a bit. Definately do not wish to damage trail (posthole) and intend to just carry the micros. However, taken SS for too many rides on my back.....so.....thought or predictions on footwear?

As a reference did Kane last Sunday (Jan 14). Micros were perfect, everything frozen solid, and the few folks we passed on snowshoes not happy (due to firmness and rocks). Should be major snow difference in Newcomb compared to north of Johnstown.

Very fun morning on Goodnow today. Only one other person and a couple super friendly dogs before us. She asked if we ok with dogs "Thank you" if you are reading this, model trail behavior!

Excellent snow on way up, definately SS not micros. One or two rocks over the two miles. Great conditions up to 11am going up. Started to get "sticky" on the way down, bottom half, car read 37 degrees. Bus load of kids in boots starting to sink in and will definately be making some serious holes on their way down. Decent coverage. Never seen so many snowmobiles in Long Lake before. Great for their businesses and about time weather cooperates!

Day rated a 9 (no real views of Santi or beyond, just the other 3 directions). Think there are high peaks close by. Couldnt see past Rich lake. Oh well - next time!
