I was there 2 weeks ago- I had service through Verizon.

Be aware that you won't have any service between Plumley Pt and fairly close to Averyville Rd. Plumley Pt was spotty but I was able to send/receive texts and a call would probably would have gone through. I also don't think there's any service where the trail crosses 28N (I've had 1 bar here in the past but have never had any luck getting even a text to go through).

I believe ATT based phones have service in Lake Placid as well. I use a chap Tracfone which I believe is on an ATT platform, and I have service in Lake Placid.

You can get service at Shattacks just as you cross the Coldriver bridge on top of the hill by the big rocks. I used to get out by cr3 but haven't tried it in a few years

                      :UPDATED:

I put together a spread sheet of the Northville-Placid Trail. I used the mileages from the National Geographic Maps. From 28N to Averyville Rd. it's 36.4 miles. I compared this to the Adirondack Mountain Club's book "Northville-Placid Trail", 4th edition. The book says it's 36.5. The newest version of the Adirondack Mountain Club Map, revision 2016, concurs to where it cuts off at Plumleys. If you walk to Stewarts in Long Lake it will be 38 miles. I left two columns of Data. It's tallied from bottom up, because that's how I see it on the map.

                      0.6 Train Station (Caltopo)
1.2 Old Military Rd. (according to the Guide book sited above.)

                        Hi Lonehiker

Thank you, for the breakdown. I have an old edition map and book that is definitely not up to date.

No problem. I used the old 1982 ADK guide and looked the distance from the jct of Old Military Rd. and Averyville Rd. and it says 37.7. If you start parking lot to parking lot (Jennings Park Rd in Long Lake) it's 35.8.

Different guides may have slightly different distances and there may be some small detours around beaver ponds, but figure 35, it's a nice easy number to remember.

I think I am going to wait until fall to do the section from Long Lake to Averyville, I was bike-camping in Eagle Bay Friday and the mosquitoes were ferocious. I have never been so uncomfortable in the woods, all night they chewed on me.
