Road access points to NPT

I'm going to be doing a leg of the NPT in a couple weeks for my birthday. I'll be heading south from Lake Placid, and am wondering if there's any spur trails that go to roads from 20 to 30miles in, so I could hitch a ride back to Placid, or should I just plan on hiking right back out?

Hello and welcome to the forums.

If starting in Lake Placid there are several ways you can come out. If you hike through to Long Lake you come out to Tarbell Road which is off rt28N which is not far from route 30. It may be hard to find someone who is headed to LP that way in order to hitch a ride. You can also get to Upper Works trailhead and the Santanoni trailhead(Newcomb) from the NPT. Both are a good distance from LP by car. Your best bet may be to hike from Lake Placid to Corey's Road. It is a long road walk on Coreys road to Rt 30 but once on route 30 many cars will be headed to LP from there. It will probably be your best bet for hitching a ride.

Disclaimer: I in no way endorse "hitching a ride" and would never depend on it .
