Around Tupper (hidden gems)

A few weeks back. We took a drive to "Charlies Inn" in Lake Clear. We went for dinner and had a wonderful time. I was wondering if anyone could suggest any other hidden gems. Some places of the beaten path.

Thanks in advance! Patrick

Anyone know of any (Off the beaten path) pubs, old inns of that sort like Charlies Inn? Interested in finding the old back road places.

Thanks again in advance!

The Thirsty Moose west of Tupper is nice.

Not really anywhere close to Tupper but since you mentioned Lake Clear, there is also the Shamrock in Brighton.

Don't forget to check out Donnely's (midway between Brighton and Saranac Lake) for ice cream.

Eat

The cafe at the Saranac Lake airport makes an awesome breakfast. Lunches are pretty good too.

The Lumber Jack on Rt 3 in Tupper has great food.

While the lumber Jack does have good food, they are notoriously slow at service, be prepared to wait a while to get served. Almost next door on the same side of the street, Larkins deli and bakery serves hot and cold sandwiches, and all kinds of baked goods. Almost across the street from the Lumberjack is the Main Street Restaurant, quite good whenever i have dined there.

my favorite eatery, especially for breakfast, in TL is the Swiss Kitchen, a small home town style diner, on Park street, just south from Stewarts. local clientele and home cooked food, I never go away hungry or disappointed.

i also like the pine Grove Restaurant for dinner. my canoe race team often goes there for an evening meal during the 90-miler. I can Recommend Shaheens motel for an overnight stay.

The Thirsty Moose, is the former Dumas's, previously owned by Walt Dumas. A favorite hang out by the(legal age)staff working at BSA Camp Massawapie at the bottom of the hill. Good food, good service, and the ring and hook game in the bar. it is still known for good food and i still stop there.

Dumas' ...I had quite the time there on my last night at BSA Camp School back in 1984 I still have a copy of a group picture that was taken that night in the bar. The Thirsty Moose is for sale now if anyone is looking for a business opportunity.

Tupper seems to be enjoying a little upswing recently.
In addition to the places listed I would add:

The Marketplace on 30 just east of town. A slower paced restaurant with exellent fresh food worth the wait. The Baja fish tacos are my favorite.

Well Dressed Foods on Park Street now that the road work is done at that end of town it is much easier to access. Great lunch stop.

Raquette River Brewery down in the Junction has a nice outside sitting area under a red/white stripped tent, great beer and a bar-b-que food truck.

P-2's Staying in the junction there is P-2's bar food nice outside sitting area and good local music.

Big Tupper just opened. We experienced good food, good beer and nice atmosphere.

Tupper Triad, Wild Center, Adirondack Public Observatory, great fishing, paddling, and hiking. Tupper Lake is worth a stop.

Not too far from Tupper is the Adirondack Hotel. Don't stay there, but the menu is pretty good. They have venison sausage which is tasty and a spinach dip served with a baguette which is a great appetizer. Sit at the bar and say hello to Colleen the barmaid. You'll get better service there. Other menu items there are good too.
