Kane mtn. Near 9 corner lake. Conditions?
 
Thinking about heading out there this weekend. Appears to be about 5-600ft elevation gain over .5 miles.

Is this doable in snowshoes this time of year?

My friend is concerned it will be more of a bouldering expedition requiring crampons and ropes due to the steep angle.

From what I can see the trail heads up the easiest slope.

Thoughts?

Haven't been over that way since New Year so can't speak to current conditions. The trail in winter is doable on snowshoes, but can be a decent effort depending on how much fresh snow is there. Pretty popular trail so there is usually some tracks. Coming back down is really fun if there is a decent amount of snow, downhill snowshoing is great

Did Kane about a month ago during the warm spell with my daughter on my back and used microspikes the entire way due to hard pack conditions. Not to steep so I would tell your friend not to worry and snowshoes will be fine. Last few storms left some heavy powder but I am sure on that trail with all of the use it will be nice and hard pack for your trip. Enjoy.
