Jessup River Road from Route 30?

I am planning to hike a few sections of the NPT this summer. I see a parking site at the end of Jessup River Road from Route 30, which would take me into the Perkins Clearing Easement to get access to the West Canada Lake Wilderness.

How smooth/rocky is this Jessup River Road, safe for a regular car?

Otherwise, I'll just brute-force myself from Piseco to Moose River Recreation Area.

Thanks in advance,

i just took my Prius all the way to the Pillsbury FT TH parking lot. the extension of the JRR that goes to Spruce Lake is open, but i just went down a bit, we had other places to get to. as long as it's not pouring rain you should be fine...

There was a bad washout just a few years back, don't know if it's been fixed.

I know the question came up a couple months ago, but I was up there last weekend the road is fine. There were several cars up at the Pillsbury trailhead parking lot. It was a little slick because it was wet, but the road seemed well maintained compared to some of the roads in the Moose River Plains.

I concur. Made it to Pillsubury TH with my Impreza last weekend. Just have to take it slow in a few spots. Slick coming out on Sunday.

I've found the road to generally be in decent shape, but when they are actively logging it can get a bit turned up by the logging trucks coming in and out. I've never had any major issues getting into even the Spruce Lake Trailhead, but there have been times where I had to go slow to avoid muddy ruts.

So, given dry conditions, in the mid-late summer, is it possible to drive the Jessup River Road to Perkins Clearing-Sled Harbor-trailheads for Otter Lake/Spruce Lake in the West Canada Lake Wilderness with a regular (FW drive) car? If not, how far could I get? Thanks

Yes. The roads are active with logging vehicles and can be a bumpy ride, so drive carefully.

Generally, yes, one can drive a 2WD car into the Spruce Lake Trailhead during that time of year without any issues. Like DuctTape says, just go slow and watch for rocks, ruts, holes, etc. It's probably not a bad idea to plan for the drive in there to take about upwards of an hour from Route 30, just in case.

Thanks very much to you all. I appreciate the information. If anyone goes in there, please post up about the road conditions. I don't know if I can wait all the way to late summer to get in there! :)
