Crazy Trees....

Just a little "off the beaten path" photo study...anybody got some shots of trees that defy logic?

This tree was confused:

We actually saw two such "right angle" trees on the way up West Kill Mt. in the Adirondacks yesterday (Saturday). One was quite small (c. 2-3 inches in diameter). It looked as though it had been broken off and then healed itself. Also saw one which was much larger (c. 1 ft. in diameter).

I'm not sure if Joanne took a picture of those two or not, but maybe she has one...

It's amazing what nature's creations will do to survive...

So many trees fall over in storms, damaging winds and natural causes.I remember when I hiked a trail as a kid and saw a tree stump covered in moss[thought it was a rock] tipped in a way so you could only see the stump.I will try to go back and see it.Then send a pic. Looncry

Bethfit, That one looks very familiar to me.
By any chance is that photo along the Heart Pd/Rock Pd trail from the Putnam Pd Camground?

I do love that neck of the woods, and I have been down that trail a time or two. ;)

Apparently these wasp for some reason stung this tree but couldn't get their stingers out and then later died still stuck like that.

This is when I climbed Ampersand October 2008.

The one behind that tree is my niece. She was killed this past July when a wrong way driver hit her on Rte. 481N. :( This past September 2009 we did a memorial for her back at Ampersand. This mountain holds a lot of meaning to me as it was her first time climbing and she was excited, anticipating doing another one this past Autumn. :(
