BC Skiing This Weekend

Anyone been out backcountry skiing? I'm hoping to do the Botheration Pond loop Sat or Sun. I'm expecting it to be pretty firm but I'm also concerned about coverage. I'd consider almost anywhere in the ADK, if the conditions might be better.
Thanks Mike

I'm finding it a little lean still...
Skiing in the PLW is great on the ponds but tough in the woods.
Hoping for more snow soon!

In spite of today's rain, still lots of snow coverage on Tug Hill and the Breia trails, just southwest of the Blue Line. The Wild Forest and wilderness areas of the western Adirondacks should have good BC skiing with a forecast inch or two of fresh snow on top of a hard ice crust layer.

Thanks guys, I'll be staying in Speculator. I may bring lots of gear and decide where to go when I get up there. I could end up snowshoeing Snowy or xcountry at Garnett Hill if the bc is not ready.

I'd say you could ski Pine Orchard even if it is thin and icy. A moderate hill to come down on the way back up near the pines and may have to dodge rocks (can you tell I've skied this before in low snow ;))

Beavers had flooded and tore up one section of the trail about half way last time I was out, but if it is frozen it is easy to ski on the beaver pond to circumvent.

That's a good idea. As thin, icy and firm as it could be, Pine Orchard could be good since it's not as hilly.
Thanks
