Nice photos and great information. After I sent the message last week, I got to thinking I was probably wrong to say the trail might be wheelable. Thinking back to when I was there earlier in the...

This is a little late to help you, but I think it might be wheelable, especially being so dry lately. Zach is correct though. It is twisty, rocky and has quite a few roots. I think I would choose to...

I read about this land deal awhile back. You can bike to the dam, and trailing a canoe too?

I don't know much about Herter's, but I always thought they were much heftier than this canoe.

You are right. Some canoes just have the number etched into the hull. No evidence that I can find on this canoe. That doesn't mean it wasn't there at one time.
The woodenboat thread was interesting...

There is no number on this canoe. It, at some time was repainted, but there is no evidence that there ever was a tag. At least none that I can find. It could be pre 1984.

It is encased in fiberglass and very rigid. The only canoes I have seen with a similar look are some Bell and Wenonah canoes. I'm sure there are more, I am just not familiar with others, and yes this...

Thanks Yellow Canoe. So you think there quite possibly was foam reinforcement already there, and someone added more?

You are right. Part of the fun with this boat has been cleaning it up, using...

i'm going to try to post two photos. One is a Bell Northstar. I don't know how old it is. The second photo is of my solo canoe. The foam reinforcement is similar.

The length was measured stem to stem, with the canoe sitting upright.
Width was measured at the gunwales - widest point.
Estimated weight is 40-45 lb. This is simply from loading it on and off...

That's a good point about the fiberglass. I was originally hoping the foam reinforcement in the bottom might be the clue that would tip someone off. So far not many ideas from anyone.
I understand...

The canoe has been cleaned up and polished. A good washing, some rubbing compound removed some light scratches.
Wood was stripped, and two coats of oil applied. No photos of the wood yet.
It seems...

Thanks RichieC -

I have Teak oil, and that seems to work great, but I haven't used it on really dried out wood.
I am hoping the boat is not too twitchy. I paddle a lot solo, but almost...

I got it home and have started to clean it up a bit, but I don't have a power washer. Some scratches but all in all for the price, not bad.

Thanks gentlemen. It is 14' x 29.5".

It was left outside last winter and was pretty dirty and semi filled with leaves when I picked it up. It needs a few minor repairs in the hull, and the wood...

It's funny you say that. The gentleman from Hemlock Canoe Works thought it looked like one of their original Tripper models, except for the foam reinforcement that you see in the first photo.
