Based on how the snow on my roof avalanched when I was raking it (15" on top of 4 inches of older snowpack) I can believe that the backcountry is pretty dangerous now.

Phelps definitely better, though I'd think a pulk would be a real PITA unless you are experienced using one. And snow is now deep-this storm has hit the hills pretty solidly.

I agree on snowshoes: Better to have them than not and get stuck/exhausted.

Sleeping bag definitely -20.

Also- double up on headlamps and batteries. Days are short.

I would go with Kahtoolas and snowshoes that have spikes. You never know when you might encounter drifting that would make snowshoes helpful/necessary. I would bet L Brook has open water.

My guess is if you wait until later int he season so snowpack gets deep it would not be bad. Now would still be pretty unconsolidated. Have never been in that stretch, so just a hunch on my part....

I agree, though much prefer going up trail. Went up trail and skied down road once. That was fun.
Agreed on descending Marble Mt. t-bar line...ouch. Reservoir trail is nicer, though a little longer.
