I'm not calling anyone's tree id into question, but I'd be curious to know where there are significant stands of oak, as that is rare in the Adirondacks. And AFAIK, only red oak occasionally...

Where are these "groves" and what species of oak are they?...

Actually a fair bit of USL shore is forest preserve. I don't have a percentage for you though. I've camped out there at the "old" sites, and they are really nice. Some are far, far, far better...
