I did the same route to Iron a few years back during a winter snowshoe visit, plus a climb up “Jockeybush Hill”, and then a loop around Jockeybush back to the marked trail....

I can’t help with the campsite questions but 4 people & 2 canoes made me think of these guys & their catamaran set-up...bring all the gear & firewood you want & no need to worry about capsizing....

I’ve done the same, when mother nature begins to cover up significant area historical remains I’ll often pull them out a bit when I find them and brush off the leaves & sticks a bit to help keep that...
