I ONLY burn paper items.

I don't throw uneaten food into the fire either.

Anything else gets carried out.

And I assure the burned paper item is ash and not intact in any way. Which means, I stir it around a bit to assure its done and gone.

I've been a bit unhappy to come into a site (typically a lean-to and find uneaten hamburgers, bones (chicken/ steak), bread, etc still sitting in the fire in the ashes.
Beyond the fact that I don't to look at it; my greater issue is it is a magnet for pests/ rodents/ unwelcome wildlife.

The truth is, I make an effort during trip prep to NOT have any disposable type plastic (wrapping, containers) etc. Anything like that I either, replace/ rewrap before I go or I just plan to carry it out if I can't replace it before the trip. As for leftover foods.... that's rare for me (I like to eat ) and if there is any I take it with me.
