When I was a teen, fishing a stream with a friend, we were asked to show our licenses. I had mine, but my friend had none. He was asked to get one asap and to show it to the ECO, no ticket. I don't remember if he did or not. That was the one and only time I have ever been asked for my fishing license.

Some years later I had hiked on Tug Hill through the woods from one road to the next to come out in a field behind my grandfather's house, which was then owned by my uncle. A ranger standing behind the house met me and asked me to show my pistol permit for the sidearm I was carrying. I did so, no problem. Turns out my uncle had previously complained about poachers on his land.
