I've never seen a large chestnut either, but I do on occasion see a mid-sized one that is flowering. This means that some genetic mixing is going on and out there somewhere is a chestnut that is resistant or will someday become a parent to a resistant tree. Plus we have the hybridization with the Chinese chestnuts that will hopefully be successful. this probably won't happen in our lifetimes, but someday...
