When I got my unrestricted license many years ago (in Lewis County, by the way), my local instructor and signing reference sponsor vouching for me was at the time a most well known trophy hunter and hunting magazine author with a number of world records to his name. When he looked at my draft application he told me to "never list 'personal protection' as a justification" because he guaranteed that the judge, who was well known (in a positive friendly sense both to him and to my family) will decline your application. Using any form of "self defense" was a no-no to list for regular civilian carry.
