Island Camping

Hello all!

Last year memorial day weekend a group of friends and I camped on Burgess Island on Lake George. We loved island camping so much that we decided to make it an annual tradition! My only problem with the island last year is that the Lake George islands do not allow dogs

So this year I am looking at Indian Lake Islands - which as far as I can see, allow dogs. Since we have never camped there before - I was wondering if anyone could assist me in where the nearest boat rental spot would be for camping on Long Island on Indian Lake? We will probably rent a pontoon, so I was wondering what the closest location to our island would be to do so.... any help is gratefully appreciated!

Thanks and cant wait to get back up to the Dacks!

Think also of Cranberry Lake and the Emporium Marine in town. However, with the recent loss of Bill LaFrance, the deceased owner, it remains to be seen if they will reopen this spring.
Billy will be missed.

Try Putnam Pond(Puts Pond) outside Ticonderoga. It has some lakefront sites (9 I think 2 are accessible by land the rest only by water, although I think only 2 of those are on an island)

The best resource for state park information is Reserve America
http://www.reserveamerica.com/homeLe...ex=CampingSpot

If you scroll down to Putnam Pond you will see that it is dog friendly. Click on the link and it will take you to a map of the campground and you will find that there are 4 island sites, 3 of which can be reserved online.
If you are looking for something a little less developed you should consider Floodwood Pond or Long Pond which are located just south of the St Regis Canoe Area.. Both have numerous free sites both on shore and on islands. Long Pond is a motor less lake but Floodwood is not. St Regis Canoe Outfitter http://www.canoeoutfitters.com/
is a great place for information about these and other canoe accessible site through out the park.

Lower Saranac Lake Islands is dog friendly. Bring the paperwork that proves your dog has been vaccinated against rabies. Without it you and the dog won't be allowed to camp in any DEC campground
