Wow. Some of the comments here are more disgusting than the scene at the campsite.
None of us know these people or what type of "benefits" they are receiving and why. We don't know what type of medication they are taking or why. All we know is they made the unfortunate and shortsighted decision to leave bagged trash at a campsite. While that's an indication of a need for more education, it's not a reason to pillory strangers for relying on the social safety nets that help many of our fellow Americans, and that we are lucky not to need (at the moment). The call for increased enforcement is a good one, but keep in mind that the same comments about "my tax dollars at work" here are what keep enforcement budgets down. 99% of New Yorkers would say the same thing about wilderness enforcement: we have bigger problems, why should I be spending tax dollars so a few yahoos can go in the woods a couple of times a year? In any case, thanks to James these folks will be learning a lesson and hopefully getting the necessary education so they can enjoy the outdoors in the future while leaving it in a state that others can enjoy as well. That should be all there is to it. We're all on the forums out of a love of the outdoors, but we are all also part of the same society (yep, even you Canadians, in a roundabout way). We look out for each other here, and we should do the same in the bigger picture. We're better than this. |

Without knowing the facts, I chalk it up to an individual (or group of individuals) that are unable to read the numerous signs posted at just about every numbered campsite within the HRSMA that say "Please Do Not Litter" & "If you carry it in, carry it out".
Let's stop making excuses, and just call it what it is. Some people need to be made an example of what is unacceptable, or there will be consequences. It's no accident that this keeps happening, especially in easily accessible areas such as this. Last edited by Justin; 07-11-2017 at 10:31 PM.. |

Justin - Agreed. The people responsible were simply slobs, lazy and exhibited no sense of personal responsibility. The only education required should have been learned by age 3, along with cleaning up after one self with the completion of potty training.
They were ambitious enough to carry in full containers of beer, and too lazy to carry out the empties. Motor vehicle access just makes it easier for people to carry in more junk that one would be unlikely to carry in a backpack. A good town judge would turn them over to a DEC officer and run them out there to clean up trailheads or a few miles of trail in lieu of spending as few weekends in the crossbar hotel. Most "violations" in NY can carry up to 15 days in jail. Last edited by Paradox6; 07-12-2017 at 11:56 AM.. Reason: typo |

Didn't see any empty beer containers in the photo in the original post, but it does look like there's a half melted 5 gallon bucket in the the fire pit.

Justin - Went to the link to facebook, scrolled thru photos, but on second look, it could be photos of another campsite. Doesn't change my opinion of what is there or the people who left it.

![]() In addition to the half melted bucket, the two side by side cups full of god knows what is proof positive to me that this was no accident. |
