Star Lake - Cranberry lake area

I'll be working around Star Lake staying in Cranberry Lake for a few months. Any recommendations for hikes in the area I could knock out after work.

Something in the 1.5 to 3 hour range? I saw on a previous post Arab Mt as a possibility so I'll check that out, and the Peavie swamp trail to the lean-to looks interesting and i think is only a few miles?

Anything additional (small lakes/ponds preferred) would be appreciated. Obviously I'd like to avoid driving too far as time will be an issue as the days get shorter.

Thanks

One More:

I heard a while back of possible cell phone coverage in the area in the second half of 2012. Anyone know that current status?

Thanks

If you don't have a guidebook for the area, it's probably worth your while to pick one up, either Discover the Northwestern Adirondacks by McMartin and Ingersoll, or the Adirondack Mountain Club guidebook for that area.

Not included, because it's outside of the Blue Line, there's a very nice loop hike to three lakes, Huckleberry, Moon and Wolf, just outside of Talcville. Each lake has a lean-to. Doing the loop in under three hours might be a bit of a challenge, but it's only a mile from the trailhead to Huckleberry. At the southern edge of the hamlet of Talcville there's a bridge crossing the Oswegatchie. Just past the bridge there's a dirt road going west. At 1.2 miles you come to where the trail from Wolf comes out. Drive another quarter mile down the road and that's where the trail to Huckleberry starts.

A cell tower is under construction on Columbian Rd. in Cranberry Lake. Your guess is as good as mine as to when it will be operational.

Burnt Bridge Trailhead east of Cranberry Village on Rt3.
Truck Trail out of Wanakena towards High Falls.
Wanakena to Janacks Landing.

These are part of the CL 50 trail . Out and back...

And a short one up Cathedral Rock on the Wanakena Campus of SUNY, to the FIRE TOWER!

Thanks Chairrock,
In three weeks I've managed to........climb the fire tower at the Ranger school (which was quite nice). It seems work is getting in the way of play. I have accumulated a lot of local maps which is nice. I plan to keep trying...Oh, I also know every individual spot between star lake and Tupper lake where a reliable Verizon signal can be found, and most o them are in odd, odd places.
