Moose, Louie, Blue, Rondeau, Durant, Bear, Pharaoh, Cedar, Ash.

Many ADK peaks: Sawyer, Phelps, Baxter, Allen, Hadley, Lyon, Kane, Colden, Marshall, Porter, Moxham etc
Also village names: Tupper, Saranac, Jay, Keene, Newcomb, Hudson, Placid, etc
Then there's all those lakes and ponds.....

My son had got a chocolate lab pup named Saranac who grew into a huge powerful monster of a dog that couldn't be handled. He would tear up the house whenever left alone. Saranac ended up going to a police academy as a working dog.

No one said Buck yet. I like Buck. I'm a fan of one syllable dog names. They're easy to holler at the top of your lungs.

Is that really an allowable distinction in this day and age?

That depends on the style of booties and sweater it wears.
