C3-P0, while it does take a well experienced fly fishermen to notice the difference between a super-duper top o' the line fly rod (not me by any means), just the opposite is true with novices and cheap rods.
i first started fly fishing over 10 years ago with a cheapo k-mart rod. it sucked, i sucked, and i quickly lost interest. then about 5 years ago i decided to try again, but this time i got a 1/2 way decent rod and found it much easier to learn how to cast with. moral of the story is: i don't believe you need a $1,000 orvis, but you're also setting yourself up for failure with a $30 walmart special. besides, i'd rather pay the extra $70 and know it's guaranteed for life.

Hello everyone, Did anybody name the www.ausableriversportshop.com yet? There is a ton of information pertaining to the Ausable river for the flyman.Such things as weather, water level, whats hatching and what flies to bring along. He also talks about other things for a neat little update. He maybe concluding for the year ,but for the regular trout season he updates his report daily at or around 7am ,faithfully, not like Francis Betters who may update his report by the month.Well, thanks for sharing all these valuable websites amongst us fishing fanatics.

Sacco, Luckily I did get at least one good tip before buying a rod.... Don't be cheap with your rod and line. Sounds like it's true! I'd like to feel that I bought half decent equipment, but.... if cheaper equipment makes it any harder -- I might've quit fly fishing by now
![]() I'm just disappointed in myself on where I bought it now :/ I have friends in auburn, and am out there kinda often, and.... had money burning a hole in my pocket, and bought my first rod at bass pro ![]() Anyhow, I already want another rod (or two) ![]() Rising trout outfitters are great, they were sure to have my business after my first trip in there, I just fell in love with the place. As an aside...Still took me about 10 hours of casting before I threw a not-open loop, hehe. And honestly still don't throw nice loops consistently. Probably with some instruction you can learn to throw a tight loop in 10 minutes, but... armed with a few books, a video and the internet -- prepare to learn the hard way (my favorite way to learn, heh) ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Also,
www.flyfishingconnection.com has a good overview of just the Mayflies life cycle ![]() and www.fishonfly.com is pretty cool ![]() If none of this helps go to Barnes and Noble or Borders and grab a few good books off of the flyfishing shelf and buy a coffee and sit and read some of the interesting parts, when done ,put books back and go home with nothing lost but time. ![]() WB
