The Luna Loca (not sure I have it spelled correctly) in the shopping plaza near Lake Placid is a very good Mexican restaurant. I ate there earlier this past summer and it is clean, moderately priced and the food was excellent. I agree with the post about Casa Del Sol. I had the worst meal ever there a few years ago and I will never go back.

So, I'll come back to this first post later on and update as people reply. First hand experience and a brief review or description is appreciated (since all the replies to this post are going to remain). If you have a link to their website, posting it would be helpful and saves me from having to find it (if one exists). If you have had a contrary experience at one of the previously posted recommendations, simply write a brief review of your own.
Please, do not post a recommendation for an establishment you may own or manage. Too much conflict of interest, we want this list to be as objective as possible... by members, for members.
We're looking specifically for recommendations/reviews with the following information:
Approximate price per dish
Atmosphere (bar, club, grill, diner, etc)
Specialty food(s) (if there are any)
What you've tried there
Types and rough prices of drinks
Adirondack Steak and Seafood in Lake placid, bar/grill, excellent food, moderately priced, calm atmosphere, Prime rib, lobster, rainbow trout, chicken, Microbrews, around 4 bucks I believe. Excellent brews though. If your over in Keene, we ALWAYS hit the noonmark diner. It's a diner, what else can I say? Food is great, prices are good, the best pies and pastries probably in the whole area I'd say. Casa Del Sol in Placid is eh Mexan food. Up in plattsburgh, my hands down favorite is Giovanni's Restaurant, probably in this whole area. Food is some of the best anywhere I've ever been. Atmosphere is very pleasant, they have a bar. Prices are mid-range, like $20 for a steak, a brew will set you back 4 bucks I think, but they have blue moon, it's a micro brew, Next to canadian beer it's my fave. Not in the park, but right up the road. It's never really really busy which is nice, and it's kind of out of the way with a middle age crowd, 30's+ mostly... Oh yea, I always get a steak when I go there, they are the only place in this area that can really cook a true medium rare steak exactly how it should be... That I've found...
If your near the Saranac area, not saranac lake, the town of Saranac, there is a small hometown Restaurant with some of the best chow ever. It's called the Rustique. Very rustic indeed, inside looks like a log cabin. No bar/grill, just restaurant. Homey fireplace, kinda small, maybe seats 25 people total. Everything is home made there. I've had chicken, trout, salmon, Steaks, pizza, and Calzones and have been thoroughly impressed everytime. Moderately to higher priced, but the atmosphere/portions/quality is well worth it. Try fresh chilled green beans with raspberry vinagrette sauce, it's excellent. They have several beers/wines to choose from, domestic and imported...

Home cooking!
If anyone enjoys "home cookin'" and does not mind buffet style...you should check out Gloria's Country Inn: 3261 Fisher Hill Rd., Mineville, NY 12956
(518) 942-3065 Open Wed. - Sun. 4-9pm
It is the perfect stop after a long High Peak Hike when you deserve some extra calories! Excellent soup to warm your bones after a cool day...usually 2 choices. Tons of appetizers with a salad bar. Entrees vary from lasagna, BBQ Ribs, fried/baked or roasted chicken, pasta and more...3 choices per night with veges. And every kind of pie/cake/dessert one could ask for, including a custard ice cream machine.
Last time I was there it was all you can eat for $13 on Grand buffet night (Sat.) and $11 for all you can eat on a regular night. Reasonable and very informal.

Ubu !!!
It hurts me to read all these posts about the best places to eat in LP, UBU is mentioned, but the home of UBU Ale is not!! The Lake Placid Pub and Brewery is THE BEST place for a post hike meal! Good food, great beer, and its all reasonably priced! Sandwiches and meals are in the low teens...it's not on the main strip, but it is still easy to find. Turn at the mobil station as you are either leaving or coming into LP. You cant miss it!

In Lake Clear Junction I like to stop at Charlie's Inn. Food is good. The bar is great. The rooms are comfortable. Brock is your host, and he's a good guy. It's been too long since I've been there.
The Lumberjack in Tupper has been one of my favorites too. The Loader is an awesome breakfast.

It's probably more for sentimental reasons than anything, but I've always been a big fan of breakfast at Pitkin's in Schroon Lake. My grandfather always says they had the best blueberry pancakes he's ever had.-Rob

Arthurs in Dolgeville has some pretty good eats. Reservations are definitely recommended on Fridays. They serve a fishfry on Fridays that is very good.
They have a nice sitdown area and a pretty varied menu from seafood to steaks, pasta, etc. Cozy bar area with two flatpanel tvs for sporting events.
Nice place.Steve
