Lean-to Rescue project

Paul Delucia started rescuing lean-to's with a group of hard charging, hard working, hard paddling group of guys and gals. They are dedicated to repairing or replacing lean-to's that need some major TLC...

One of their projects is to build a new lean-to for the Bear Lake area. The UMP has one approved, but funding has been hard coming on many of these projects.
http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/49959.html

Lean-to Rescue took this project on, and is building a new lean-to that will be bought, built, and delivered by these dedicated folks. They are donating this to the DEC.

I've had the privilege to work the last couple of weeks with Lean-to Rescue. These craftsman are hand scribing every log and fitting the joints as if this is going to be there own personal home. I'll post pictures as it progresses.

Their plan is to start repairing lean-to's in region 5 shortly. they are working with the DEC on what needs to be done.

We owe these folks a debt of gratitude for all they do...

Here's the pictures:
First the pile of logs they bought, pealed, and transported for this project.

This is truly amazing! I am quite envious of their skill and craftsmanship. Nice to see some people putting in such time and effort so that the public in general may benefit. How in earth do you intend to move it to it's final location though!?!

Gary,

That is awesome stuff. One question (okay 2)......

Are these folks associated with a 501c(3) NFP group?

and roughly, how much funding for one of these lean-tos? Restoration or building?

Hi Dustin!
I believe this one will be dis-assembled, and trailered to the trailhead, and then brought in on portage carts. 1.7 miles.
These folks have rescued over 30 lean-to's, and they carry material, and tools in, then carry out anything that isn't wood...
When they did the lean-to's deep in the 5 ponds wilderness, the DEC took material in by chopper for them, but they carry a lot of stuff, by canoe, portage carts, and on there backs.
