Face-off In Chestertown

A Barred Owl was stalking our bird feeder when a red squirrel decided to check him out. When the owl turned his head and looked at the squirrel as to say
" Are you fu!@#$5ing kidding me !!! The Squirrel jumped about 15 feet to safety.
You got to Love living in the woods!!!

I was sitting watch on a stump in a large logged off hill top and an owl flew over and landed about 50' away in a tree. I watched it for a few minutes and then sniffled once. It immediately rotated its head 180* and stared directly at me. Creepy feeling... and I had a gun! Awesome birds!
Great pic!!

Haha. Yes, their stare can be oddly disconcerting. Had that with a Bald Eagle once at a range of only 15 feet. Rendered me speechless for a few seconds.

Horicon, Great shots. You're right, city people will never understand the thrill of having this stuff going on just off your back porch.

Hey wait a minute, I live in a city, albeit a small one with 300 acres of preserved forest across the street, but I'm still a city-slicker. I was skiing at daybreak the other day and as I came down a hill a Great Horned Owl flew out of a tree just in front of me and stayed just ahead and above me for about 10-15 seconds.
Red Tails have been visiting the white pine across the street again. Maybe this year they'll decide it's good enough for a nest.
