Would one of the lakes in the Pharaoh Wilderness be a good compromise for our Canadian friends?

I havn't counted heads but after an early flurry of posts I don't think a critical mass of interested people has yet to be achieved. Of course no agressive marketing techniques have been employed so far. Personally, I really like the idea of a short hike, some skating, a big fire and a social event all rolled into one. A venue further north than Middle Lake of course would attract more REAL skaters (Canadians that is). I noticed that there were at least as many fire tenders as skaters willing to step up to the plate. Perhaps we could attract some ice fisherman who could then feed the masses. As a further attraction, a hockey game between team Canada and team USA would be fun.
All those interested post away!

The hockey game is good idea. As long as Hawks isn't the referee, 'cause it just wouldn't be fair.

If this is going to work we need a venue closer to Canada (I'll get lots of my compatriots to participate: Gut Lafleur, Mario Lemieux, Patrick Roy, Stan Mikita, Bobby Hull, Martin, Yves and so on). Dick had suggested something egyptian....C'mon gang let's make it happen!

How about the West Canada Lakes?

You'll fit right in by the time half the game is done.

Lightbulb how about ...

Owen or Copperas Pond near LP? trailhead is off of Rt 86 ... short hike to either lake ... one of them has a lean-to on it as well, good size for skating ...
just a thought!

Fire sitters

Sounds like we are heavy on fire sitters, and light on skaters! How about this...Why don't we send Jeff in a day ahead of time, and then when we get there, we can go swimming!

I like that idea -- wish I had thought of it! Much better than my earlier suggestion of Pharaoh Wilderness. Redhawk's suggestions (Murphy-Middle-Bennett; Silver Lake) are good, but again, a little out of the way for some.

Hockey...isn't that the game with the sticks and that little black thingy?

Why retirees...there probably won't be a season this year. I'll bring Chelios, Leetch, Amonte, Tkachuk and so on...

Are fires allowed at Copperas or Owen Ponds?
One thing that will be very important is the quality of ice. Some years you get perfect ice and others it may be pretty well unskateable. For ex. if it freezes, then rains and snows on top then freezes again we'll all be tending the fire. Even if that happens we should still go for it.
And yes hockey is played with sticks and a little black thingy called a puck. The sticks are for rendering one's opponents senseless (and toothless). No one knows what the puck is for.
