Mountain Bike ride- Buttermilk area of Lake Luzerne

So I decided to get my first real ride on my new bike. Got up early Saturday morning and did a 12 mile loop, riding along the edge of the river. The old road has seen better days, it was in much better condition a few years ago. Made for some tough riding in spots, but was a great workout and challenge. I rode as far as the old snowmobile bridge over the waterfall. At that point I was 6 miles in and kinda tired, so I opted to turn back. My goal for the next trip will be to cross over the stream and finish out the trail to Warrensburg.

Nice!
That old Sube' has seen better days also lol.
In case you're unaware, there is a 40 foot waterfall about 100 yards upstream of that old bridge which is pretty nice, but beware of the thick patches of poison ivy near its base.
Good luck with the through trip to Warransburg!
The northern section near the end of Katts Corners Rd is a bit brushy!
Also, you may also enioy a ride along the dirt road to Gay Pond...lots of downhill on the return.

Thanks Justin!!
I will have to check out the waterfall sometime(from a distance)....
The last time I was at that bridge crossing was the time I wiped out on my dirt bike trying to ride across it when it was wet. Nearly fell off the bridge and into the stream below. That would have sucked to say the least!!
It has changed considerably in there the last few years. I was told that the local snowmobile club was supposed to rebuild the bridge, but it hasn't happened yet. My buddy is one of the club officials, maybe I will get on him about it...lol
I definitely plan on exploring the area a lot more on the bike, maybe I will run across you sometime!

If you don't mind doing some navigating, you can go all over the place in that area. There are weeks worth of snowmobile trails, old roads, etc., that can be linked up with an occasional bushwhack. You can connect to Hickory Ski Area, Viele Pond, Prospect Mountain, and put together all sorts of loops and through trips. Have fun!

If & when the bridge is rebuilt, there are some pretty steep hills to negotiate along the continuing old roadway along the northern bank of Ferguson Brook, and on the lower slopes of Bald Mountain, as I'm sure you're aware.

Let me know when you plan to head to the area again, I'll try to join you.

I actually ride most of those trails on my snowmobile..thats what got me interested in mountain biking. I was just looking at the club trail map and was planning on trying the Veile pond to Warrensburg from Luzerne ride this weekend.

Anybody up for some mountain biking on Saturday?

Thanks again Justin.
I actually have never been beyond the bridge, so its uncharted territory for me. But I will have to give it a try now that it sounds challenging.
Sometimes I get in the middle of one of my trips and think...I must be nuts...but I always make it out..lol
