River Crossing to Southside Trail?
By chance, is Johns Brook frozen enough to cross it over to the Southside Trail?
Thanks for any info. |

You can never count on Johns Brook being completely frozen over but you should be able to find a place to rock hop across.

I would fully expect to be breaking trail on the Southside trail also. Remember too that this trail has not been officially maintained since Hurricane Irene. If you're thinking that this will be a shortcut anywhere, it most likely will not be in any case.

As of last Sunday the Southside trail is in great shape due to skiers using it to get to Bennies Brook slide. The JB crossing is solid, just follow the tracks. You can follow the upper trail the skiers use or lower old hiking trail which goes along closer to the brook. This latter trail has one steep and possibly icy wash-out which meets up with the upper trail. It also goes over rock cut brook which is easy. I prefer the Southside because fewer ups and downs.

Thanks, JoeCedar. We were actually @ Peg O back on 3/1 and 3/2 and the crossing was totally fine. There’s always more snow than I assume there will be.
Def prefer the Southside too. That’s a nice, pretty, flat trail. We usually always go in/out that way now. Enjoy yr Spring. 👊🏼✌🏼. |
