How is that the wind conspires against us, "up hill in both directions"? You encountered what are likely the usual places for semi-permanent beaver dams. Had you waited until after this coming Friday, chances are you would have seen a much clearer channel through the beaver dams and lily pad mats. 275 boat are due to pass through there at high speed on the first leg of the 90-miler canoe race. The last dam, after the bridge, is usually the highest, with a tough sharp left turn just after on the way down, that often traps bow first into the bank any too fast boats shooting over the dam who are not prepared for the turn.

Don't fear taking that Hornbeck on larger and rougher sections of the NFCT. It can handle wind and rolling waves if you keep weight and gear well centered. I paddled and carried my 10.5' Hornbeck all the way from Boonville to across Lake Champlain a few years ago.

Hornbeck

The beaver dams were fun... I'm sad I cannot make it to watch the 90 miler... Hopefully 2018 I will get the opportunity.. I believe you are correct on the Hornbeck, however I just felt nervous... Speaking of Hornbeck I really like the new Nomad line...
