Reminds me of a pot-growing operation my cousin and I came upon one time during deer season. I passed the location on to the local Forest Ranger. He staked it out the following year, but no luck and wound up cleaning it all up himself.

Sickening amount of garbage , the fine for littering runs from $80 to $500 , that should be per item plus removal costs IMO. Justin , I hope you update this thread if the mess gets cleaned up .

That amount of trash indicates a group of nomads or gypsies or druggies. Why would they leave their camping chairs? Maybe something frightened them off.

That's logical thinking but that may not be the case. Maybe something didn't want them there and made that clear. The difficulty in hauling stuff is going uphill not downhill. Either they planned on coming back or ran away. Not a bear. A bear would have rummaged through the cooler. Perhaps something else motivated them to leave. If it was a ranger that crap would have been cleaned up by now.

Maybe because carrying all that stuff in sounds like a great idea when you're sober, but carrying it out when you're way hung over doesn't.

Quite possible. You sound like a person of experience! But hangover or not I would go back to clean it up when I felt better. That's the difference between being a hero and being a zero. They don't think the way we do. I wonder why?

No, not really. I don’t generally drink much, especially when camping. Like to keep my wits about me. Maybe a nip of something on a cold night, but that’s about it. I’m just judging by the mounds of empty cans of crappy beer I see and have packed out on occasion, and the parties I’ve heard while camping. Why is it always crappy beer? I’ve noticed over the years that I never seem to see left behind cans of a really good IPA, for instance. It’s always Coors Lite or something similar. There are people who go to the woods to enjoy the solitude and peace. And then there are people who go to the woods because It’s a place to party with less chance of repercussions for bad behavior. Different priorities, I guess.

When I met these guys a few years ago up there the one guy, Mickey, said he goes there a lot. They were pretty big guys & not in the best of shape. It seems pretty obvious to me that they are just too lazy to carry anything out, and each time they return they bring some more gear that gets left behind.

I haven’t heard anything since chatting with the Ranger. She said she would do her best to try & resolve it but I don’t really have my hopes up.
