PaddleFest

Anyone go to Paddlefest this past weekend? How was it? Any good deals?

I had planned on going, but something came up last min... From checking out the oldforge webcam I didn't see all that many boats on the water.

Yup. Mostly to chat with some of the vendors I know. Not sure about any great deals going on.

Disappointed and surprised that for the first time there was a $5 entry fee. The village is charging John for use of the park. Too bad because it was moved from Inlet to Old Forge to get a better venue (as one reason).

I felt bad when they moved it from Inlet to Old Forge (since Inlet's smaller and could use the economic boost) but I think the 2 main reasons were that the Old Forge beach is larger and the pond better situated out of the wind.

I had not planned to go but as we ended up doing a trip to the Santanoni’s (2 out of 3) and we were passing through Old Forge we stopped Sunday to see some friends who work for Swift Canoe. The crowd seemed small, but as this was my first time I have nothing to compare it with. They told me that Saturday was busy with people having to wait for boats to test paddle. As for deals I did not price any boats other then Swifts . I know what they generally charge, and they were marked down. I did not buy anything but did do some “window shopping”. MSR had a nice booth and they had not marked any thing up, and you got 10% off on any purchase 15% if you bought a boat. There was also a large tent with discounted items (30% to50%) which had some nice deals. We only stay an hour but I figured I got my $5.00 worth.

Not surprised about the $5 entry fee considering all the bs politics behind the scenes.

I wasn't going to mention that, but so I've heard.
