Boreas Ponds conditions
Just returned from the 14 mile / 6 hour ski of Gulf Brook road. Conditions were OK but the snowmobile tracks caused a little difficulty. It would have been OK if they had stayed on one track but when one would careen around a corner it made it difficult. If skiers and snowmobiles are going to share the road, there must be more consideration.
New signin registers at the gates (the second one was open). Nice maps of the area showing allowed usage; where can I get copies? Why are there four parking lots planned? Why are bikes not allowed on the road SW of the first dam? Snowmobiles are! Why is the site of the lodge still closed? Can't be much revegetation going on now! |

Camp lessees (not the general public) are allowed motorized (snowmobile) access thru September 2018.

Yes, the map on the last page is the one posted at the two trail registers. Thanks.

My trip fell through, second time in a row I thought I was going up and it didn't happen. March is the next hope. Thanks for the reports (prior, Nehasane; post MTVhike). I did head to Western NY where over two feet of snow melted in about 48 hours. I found one hillside where I had my skis on for a couple hours, I don't know if I can call it skiing, more like picking out short runs through the trees.
I was at a place where I've been doing trail work every summer for about 20 years but only gotten to a couple times in the winter. Walked the trails for six hours clearing debris and am going to make an effort to get there again before the winter is over. |
