Hello. First time primitive camper here. Looking for any advice and or suggestions. We are looking for a primitive site that includes following in no particular order:
1) No more than 5 Hours from NYC.
2) Site allows fires.
4) near water for fishing, wading, waterfall
5) willing to hike from car to site
6) hiKing trails

Anywhere from the central ADK's and south will be about 5 hours from NYC...I assume you are driving.
Everywhere but the Eastern High Peaks allows fires, but the EHP is outside of your drive distance anyway.
The rest of your desires can be met by too many spots to list completely.
For seclusion, I would avoid the Pharoah Lakes region, and deficately avoid the Lake George region.
There are some great spots in the Jessup River Wild Forest, Siamese Ponds and Silver Lake Wilderness areas.
I would suggest you get a few of the Discover the Adirondacks series of guidebooks.
Also take a look at the various Unit Management Plans for specific regions, there is a huge amount of info in the plans, including maps of trails and designated campsites.
Those UMP's can be found here
You should also familiarize yourself with the regulations and guidelines for camping in the ADK's.

Big question is whether you want to car camp or backpack. Backpacking: Endless possibilities. Car camping: Moose River Plains are hard to beat.
