Backcountry Hunting Cranberry Lake

Anyone planning regular deer season hunts in Cranberry? This would include wall tent set-ups along with Bivouac camps?

I will not be far from you, Six-Mile Creek area and Janacks. I hope to get a nice buck out of there, I have hunted in the Plains a few times and loved it! The terrain seems to be similar at Cranberry. This year I will canoe into Janacks and set-up from there and hunt out to the areas I spoke of earlier. I hope you get a buck.

Oh, I understand. No, I wouldn't rather sleep in the Lean-To. Coming back to a cot with a wood stove after what could be days of hunting is far more comfortable in my mind than a hard floor to sleep on.

I feel there is a bit more of psychological security inside of a wall tent than a floor as well. If I was to spend a night in the bush away from base camp I guess I would want to use my small tent but I doubt I wouldn't make the trip back to camp at the end of the day to the main camp. It will be well worth the extra effort to bring the added weight into Janack's.

I only wish I had a small Jon boat even instead of my canoe. Too bad nobody has one in Cranberry I could use for a week.

Going into Lows the 19th if the wind forecast is ok, otherwise I'll adjust. Wall tent too.

We're heading in the 2nd weekend of rifle, I have to train on the opening weekend, unfortunately going AWOL because of deer season is not a valid excuse

A hunter's prayer for all of you:

A swift clean kill is what I ask,
Take his spirit swift and fast.
For his last breath should not be,
One of pain or agony.
