Winter Hike of Gore Mtn.

It looks like the hiking trail to Gore, The Schaefer Trail, is closed in winter. For a winter attempt I was thinking of simply doing Gore via the ski runs after the lifts close. Has anyone got any info on this? (ie. Need permission? Best ski run to take?)

I've seen people snowshoeing up the sides of ski slopes before while chairlifts were still open...but that was in Vermont. Probably best to call the Gore Mtn offices & ask, or maybe try asking one of the Firetower Facebook groups about a winter ascent. I would imagine that they wouldn't let you climb up the ski slopes after the lifts close. That's when they begin grooming with the snow cats & snowmobiles buzzing all around the mountain with cables & hoses & making more snow etc as they prepare for the next day. I'm thinking a bushwhack from the Second Pond trail and up the Black Mtn Brook ridge on the south side of the mountain could be an option...
