Loon Lake

Hi everyone!

It's been a long time since I posted here! We are planning an extended family vacation next summer, looking for a place that some folks can fish, others can sit around and read by the lake, maybe swim a little, and all of us can paddle. We also want to be close-ish to the Saranac six, and the high peaks so some of us can sneak off and do some day hikes and more paddling.

While searching for lodging, Loon Lake has come up. I have never been there before. Has anyone here every stayed there? Can you swim there? Are the motorboats well behaved, or bothersome to canoeists and kayakers?

Thanks so much for any feedback anyone may have.

I've applied for a permit to build a dam on the East Branch. There's a good spot a mile or so downriver. A 200 footer would be sufficient to give us waterfront. So far no reply.

Thanks Random Scooter. Just have to give you a shout out whenever ADK lodging is mentioned. We love and miss your cabins!

According to the websites everyone else, Loon Is about 20 miles from Saranac Lake. That would be do able IF its a good lake for paddling.

I live on the lake. Very quiet. Some motor boats; well behaved and respectful towards paddlers.
