Pharaoh Lake Wilderness Trip (May 18-20, 2018)

Hi everyone,
I spent 3 days in the northern part of the wilderness this past weekend. Hiked in from Crane Pond Road and stayed at the Oxshoe Pond lean-to. The DEC trail crew must have been in clearing the trails, as they were all in excellent shape (thanks you!). Bugs weren't bad yet, so it was enjoyable, even with the rain on Saturday. Here are some pics...

I haven't posted pics before and they aren't showing, so here's the link:

Looked like a nice trip.

I like the picture of the rainy lake from the lean-to!

The one of the rain dripping off the hemlock was neat too.

Thanks very much for all the comments. First backpacking trip in more than 20 years and first time hanging instead of on the ground. Really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to future trips.

Nice photos. Glad you enjoyed the PLWA. It certainly is beautiful. The black flies were out in full force just South of where you were at last week.

Thanks for posting a pic of the mud hole by Alder Pond. I'm heading that way soon. No way I'm driving through that this time of the year!

A number of vehicles drove all the way to Crane Pond when I was there last weekend. I spoke with the drivers of a Tacoma and a Ridgeline and they said the Alder Pond mud hole felt somewhat solid when they drove through. However, I cannot swear to it since I didn't drive in. They also mentioned some spots with large rocks that forced them to go around which put them in some good sized mud holes. My recollection was the road up to Goose Pond was pretty good, so you could drive to there and park.
