Antler, thank you for posting that. I'm familiar with that spot, and guessed it was the old site. Part of me wishes the lean-to were still there, but I also realize that it was probably a good call getting it removed and could only imagine the impact having that shelter at that spot would cause with today's increased HP traffic...

Kevin
we were there the night before they burned the Four-Corners Lean-to on September 11. I did Gray #45 on the 10th and on the 11th #46 Skylight. There were just a few burning embers of Four Corners. Because we were using Lake Tear they ( 46r crew led by Jim Goodwin waited until the next trip to remove Lake Tear. As it turned out the next trip was the following year. |

Is this leanto on the Southside of Forked Lake just east of the carry to Outlet Bay? Is it easy to locate from the water? I assume it is first come correct?

It is before the Raquette River enters on the left if paddling from the State site, and after obviously, on the right and past the river coming from the North Point Road put in. It is pretty easy to see from the water, a bit of land juts out and there used to be a cedar that leaned out over the water just where the leanto is and there used to be a brown and yellow wooden sign that said leanto but not sure that is still there. There is a similar cedar coming from the State site, easy to confuse. |

Many thanks. I noticed Forked Lake requires reservations, the lean-to is for thru hikers/paddlers and needs no reservation right? dT |
