Looking for suggestions on campsites

I'm looking for a campground near the high peaks that I can drive to. Also would like shower and toilets available. Any suggestions on your favorite campground would be appreciated. Thanks!

Disclaimer: I don't normally use any of the campsites in the High Peaks area.

Here are a few that I know (that are either in or very near to the High Peaks region):

ADK Loj's Wilderness Campground
Draper's Acres
NYSDEC Sharp Bridge Campground
NYSDEC Lake Harris Campground
Magic Pines Campground

Add NYSDEC Wilmington Notch campground.

Also add KOA in Wilmington.

I'll second Drapers Acres. I stayed there last summer and plan to again this year. It is cheap, clean and has all the amenities you mentioned!

We really enjoy 'ADK Loj's Wilderness Campground' but may investigate others on that list. ADK Loj has everything you mention plus:
High Peaks Information Center
A lake with beach and canoe rental
Central location
and my favorite...
A good bit of space between the sites. You can get one where you actually feel like you are in the wilderness but your car is a short walk away.

Second NYSDEC Wilmington Notch campground, we'll be there this weekend and once more in August. Its got all the amenities needed in my book, flush toilet and hot showers. Its common to use it as a base camp for multi-day hiking trips. There tend to not be many RVers as its a smaller campground with no hook-ups.

How's the noise level at Wilmington Notch? It seems well within earshot of the highway. Or does night-time traffic decrease sufficiently to not make it bothersome?

Exactly right. Night time in my experience has been quiet, the sites closer to the Ausable are very peaceful with the background water noise.

Thanks! Good to know. I had a similar experience at Blue Ridge Campground (private). It seems geared towards long-term RV camping and the only available tenting sites (3) were along Blue Ridge road (a highway). The evening was a bit noisy but traffic diminished substantially after nightfall. All I heard was the white noise of the waterfall across the highway. Of course, daybreak was heralded by the din of a large truck barreling down the highway. :-/

Let's just say I'm in no hurry to return there but I will keep the Wilmington campground in mind (notably the sites farthest from the highway).
