Gulf Brook Road is open to the interim access parking lot and gate. You'll have to park there and walk the remaining 3 miles to Boreas Ponds.
The road has seen substantial improvements in the past couple of months- it's no longer the rocky/bumpy drive that it used to be.

Gulf brook Rd update from 8/29/18
Drove into the parking lot (at 3.2 miles). Road newly surfaced with large gravel & drainage upgrades should last a while, but is a bumpy car ride for now. The 3.5 miles from the interior parking to the dam (thankfully) remains hard packed dirt with some modest rocks and a few short sections of gravel. (The hills are still there.)
In addition to the wheels the two of us used to trailer our Hornbecks in behind our bikes, we saw 5 other sets of wheels & a few bikes by the dam. A group of campers (ADK club) set up on the hill just E of the dam. Reportedly no formal designated camping sites marked yet. Very few hospitable places to land a boat on the interconnecting ponds. Had a picnic at the N end where the former road passes near the water.
In addition to the 7 cars there, we saw a crew from the Moriah Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility clearing trees along the road. Apparently all the work done on the road this season was by DEC crews and them.
The place remains pristine and seems primarily a paddler’s destination. One person fishing was discouraged by lack of action under the water. Some windy bursts caused adrenaline to flow & spray to collect in our small canoes crossing Second pond on the return paddle. Nice paddle on Cheney & limited portions of the Boreas the day before. Low water level there currently.

Four of the parking spots will be available through Reserve America and two will be available for people with Motorized Access Program for People with Disabilities permits.
Constructing hand launches at the Boreas Pond dam and on the shores of LaBier Flow.
The launch at Boreas Ponds dam will be ADA compliant and accessible to people with disabilities.
