Free maps both road and Topo for Garmin

Hello All
I have just loaded free routable maps for all of NY on my Garmin 60. They work! I also found free topo maps that are great.
If you got to they have two complete maps of new york for free. It takes a few steps to get things working but once you get the hang of it its pretty straight forward. These are the 24K maps so the detail is good.
Open street maps has the routable maps. You select as big or as small an area as you want to deal with. I loaded all of NY minus the city and long island and the maps are great. The routing isn't quite as slick as my car unit, but it works. I did a route from my house to Woodhull lake and I was able to combine all the auto routed roads and the hiking trails from my national geographic Adirondack maps to get a complete route. Now I have my GPS set up the way I want, and at no extra Garmin Map cost.
I just thought I would share this.

Serious necropost, on this one, but I JUST found this thread and downloaded a map last night. Hopefully get a chance to use it this weekend, and I'll report back on how it went. Thank you to the original poster - FREE road maps for any GPS is nothing to scoff at!!
