Does anybody know if Wakely has been reopened?

Wakely Mountain Trail remains closed until further notice due to safety concerns with the Wakely Mountain Fire Tower. The fire tower was closed to public access in December 2016 due to structural deficiencies. The condition of the tower has worsened and it is possible the tower may collapse in heavy winds.

This report is updated weekly - updated by late Thursday:

ok, Thanks. Darn, was really hoping to hike it before winter. Hopefully it will be reopened by next season.

That DEC *page* is updated weekly, but the actual notification about the tower has not been updated since the date given (6/29). Anyone know if any actual work has been planned, scheduled, or completed? This is probably a low priority. I have no plans to climb that tower, but for those who may want to, don't get your hopes up. If history is any guide, that notification may stay unchanged for several years.

I spoke to Indian Lake Chamber of Commerce about the status back at Labor Day. Repair work had not started at that time. Wonder if it will take a "Friends of ....." organization to get it fixed. Too bad. It's a wonderful hike and view.
