New start?

I need info on the new starting point all the way to Upper Benson and basically anything else that has changed since the guidebook. I have a thru hike planned for a month from now and my inability to find info is stressing me out!

Google "shaker mtn wild forest" and you'll find information, including a map that shows the new section of trail. Note that there is still a road walk of about 2.5 miles from where the trail connects to the Benson Rd.

EDIT: I was just down that way today (I wonder why? ) and noticed NPT trail markers on the north side of Benson Rd. I was not aware that the trail will (or already does?) continue beyond that point. I mistakenly thought that the trail followed the road from there to Upper Benson.

I don't know the status of the trail north of Benson Rd. If anyone here does please let us know! Otherwise I might have to hike it (heaven forbid) to find out.

I believe the re-route north of Benson road was completed last summer.

Now they are working on the section from Collins-Giffords Valley road to Benson road (via Mud Lake and crossing West Stony Creek).

For current info, you might also want to call the local Forest Ranger:
