The nice thing about that grouping is you can do them all in the same day.

I've done 14. I am determined to complete them all despite my bad knee (surgery a few years back) and the doc. reminding me that climbing is one of the worst things... I'll just take it slow.
Getting concerned about the deep interior mountains. I'm so slow, not sure if I'll get up and back in daylight. Took me 10 hours to do Upper and Lower Wolf Jaws last week... but I'm doing it! |

This is super fun. EMS make some great, lightweight, plastic sleds. They're small, and have handles on each side. Great for speed AND control. We flew by a party of hikers coming down Marble Mountain on the trail to Whiteface, and they were jokingly cursing us out for having sleds, lol.
Have fun! |

"Controlled flying!" It's so long and straight and wide that it's a wonderful run, and fairly easy to stop.

I'm still a newcomer to New York state (just a few years) and have only climbed three or four of the high peaks so far. At this point, I do not intend to climb them all. I'm a little older, have developed some slight back problems, and have other obligations that impact my free time. On the other hand, when I hiked the four thousand footers in New Hampshire (over a period of fifteen years), I did not consciously start out intending to climb them all. I did hikes that gave me a good challenge, and there were some under four thousand feet that fit the bill. After some years, I noticed I had accumulated more than half the list and only at that point did I put the effort into climbing the remaining peaks. So my intentions might change.

What a teaser. I'd be livid if that happened, but I guess nature takes it course unexpectedly.

Relatively new high peak lover here. 5 down (2 more in about a week) and planning on hitting them all.
Giant and Rocky peak next week will most likely be my last for this year because of other stuff. That said, plan is to bag at least 10 in 2009. |

Cascade & Porter...
The two easiest ones to climb.
Though It certainly would be a very cool 'notch on my belt' kind of thing, to complete all 46. Though I'm gonna be realistic and say if I complete 10 more in my lifetime, I'll still be happy with that. ![]() I am curious though... outside of Cascade & Porter, which of the 46'rs are the easiest and/or less time consuming to climb? Any suggestions?? Btw- I'm new here. This forum was suggested by member and fellow tweeter AdRegion (Thanks btw!) ![]() That said, Hello everyone! ~ZZ

Wright ...in that order. Then, Big Slide It's all uphill after that. ![]() Don't forget all the non-46er peaks that are great hikes: Hurricane, Noonmark, Pitchoff, Jay, Snowy, Wakely, Hopkins, Ampersand, etc. etc.

And yes... the non-46'rs are still great hikes. I have done Wakely, Blue Mtn, and Baker. And Ampersand I've done twice, as it holds a very special meaning to me. If I was able to, I think I would live in the High Peaks region the whole month of September & first two weeks in October. Can't think of a better time of year to go. ![]() ~ZZ |

My Guess
I'd say Neil is joking, but I'm sure he will speak for himself.
As for me I'd like to think I could do those peaks in the summer under 17hrs at a strong pace. But I'd have a tendency to skip Nye since is very low on my treasured peak list. If you are just out for a casual hike, it wouldn't be recommended to do these as a group! ![]() PS I really like your GreenEyes! Mine are green but they don't have the same twinkle!! |
