Garmin GPS map

I am a new member here. I am looking for GPS map for my Garmin 650t . I will be coming to Adirondack from Ontario, Canada.

Can someone point me to a website that I can get the maps?

I have search Garmin site, and others but their maps are unclear

The best place to get a map for your 650t is directly from Garmin. You want the Topo US 24K Northeast map. That will give you the best detail. You have the option of buying the DVD or memory card in this map. I'm not sure on the 650T which is best (I believe it is capable of taking SD Cards). I have a 60Cs, and can only use the DVD. An interesting note; originally I had the National Parks East, for the Adirondacks, in a Topo 24K, from Garmin. I see now that is no longer available, and I believe the Northeast is the replacement. I have yet to buy it, but I need to upgrade soon as my old PC, with software, is gone. $130 is a lot for maps. Amazon lists the Northeast version, today, for $91. The picture, though, is of the Topo West!

Have fun -

I have the Garmin Topo US 24K Northeast memory card in my Etrex 20 and love it. It contains a lot of the old trails that existed on the 1954 USGS map, some of which are still visible as game trails. I find it to be quite accurate.

The factory store has the best price of those listed above for around $85. Beware of copies that are not packaged in a Garmin container. I bought mine for around $73 off Amazon.

I've seen the NY topo map from GPSfiledepot.com and the My Trails also from the same source. I've never seen the Garmin Northeast maps.

Question.....for those who have seen both the Garmin maps and the NY Topo map from the source above, how much more detail, if any, do the Garmin maps have?

They don't have more detail. The free NY Topo has more detail, more accurate and in some cases better labeled.

Add the "My Trails" and you have everything you need for your GPS:

Thanks Mike, that's great to know. I've always wondered if I was missing something by not having the Garmin software.

No prob.

Just note that any trail information may be slightly off. Garmins own maps have some really old trail info in some cases.

The free "My Trails" is pretty good and looks to be taken directly from public sources(ie. DEC info, etc)...

But then again I've seen minor discrepancies with the DEC's information as well...

Google Earth KML's can be found here for a variety of information:

http://www.dec.ny.gov/pubs/42978.html

The trails are the same as you'll find in the "My Trails", just expect to see some slight oddities once in awhile.

Nothing too bad though.
