Here is the Cedar Lakes dam, West Canada Lake Wilderness Area. As you can see there is no water flowing over the dam--all of it is flowing underneath. The lake level was down noticeably since my last visit.

While pictures of Marcy Dam are a dime a dozen, this one with the level so far down seems to fit nicely I think. I've never seen the water level so low.

Squirrel Dam - Though this pics is low quality the height of this dam is impressive. Estimate between 7 and 8 ft. between water levels.

Shots of the Duck Hole dam, after Miss Irene had her way with it. These are from a paddle trip I made there last September. (Yes, there is still a Duck Hole Pond and you can still paddle it. Just beware of the mud.)

Bill I, is this the Sand Lake on ALC land, the one which borders the black River WF? I've always wanted to go there, but wasn't sure about property ownership. Some maps indicate that the outlet is on Forest Preserve, but the rest of the lake is ALC.

Here's a local dam under construction in 1903 or '04. The workers contaminated the creek and started a typhoid epidemic that killed several Cornell students and led to the city taking over the water supply. They knew the reservoir was too small and less than ten years later built one twice as big upstream.
Today it's a real problem thanks to youtube and FB as word has gotten out that it's great for cliff jumping. They come from hundreds of miles to jump both above and below the dam. And trash the place, trample all vegetation, spray paint the cliffs and building. But it's still a great place, especially this time of year.
