moe.down

Just a friendly reminder about the moe.down 9 music festival held Labor Day Weekend in Turin, NY ...just outside of the western Adirondacks.

I know that the band moe., and their festivals (moe.down & snoe.down) have been mentioned on this forum before, and I just wanted to see if anyone here is planning to attend also.

...Seems like it's going to be yet another fun holiday weekend with some good ol' friendly camping, hiking, mountain biking,
...and some good ol' hick music!

Aww man - I wish I had known sooner - I'm stuck in California for work, and won't be home in time...wish they'd let snoe.down come back.

Thanks for the replies!

WW, There's always moe.down 10 next Labor Day Weekend!
Hopefully snoe.down will return in late '09 or early '10, since moe. will taking a long hiatus after moe.down 9.

Sky, Sorry you can't make it either!
A little rain wouldn't be a bad thing though, because the past couple of years it has also been known as dust.down!

I am looking forward to Yonder Mountain String Band, Benovento-Russo Duo, and the Sparrow Quartet featuring Bela Fleck & Abigale Washburn.
I'm also interested in checking out Levon Helm (from The Band), U-Melt, Cornmeal, The Brew, Lynch (Albany's own), Fishbone, and of course, moe. I'll do my best to check out some of the other bands too, but there's lot's to do!

yeah, the four you mentioned are in my top list too. i've only seen bela once and would *love* to see him again.

umelt is pretty solid, haven't seen 'em live but the tapes are on fire and i've heard nothing but rave reviews about them.

dreamin i could cough up the cash, but i'm saving for school this summer 'cause it's 8 weeks of classes with no work/paycheck (and if i don't get in, it becomes tour 2009 $$ with all the rumors flying around).

Line up looks great but I won't be going.
I've seen moe a few times, always fun. Bela is one of my favs and I've seen him with the Flecktones several times as well as acoustic a few times. Levon Helms played in Saratoga a week and a half ago with Dylan and I heard he and his band were great. Fishbone is a lot of fun too! Maybe I should plan better for next year.

I don't dare go. I downloaded "Bear Song" from Justin's link back in the spring and it took me two weeks to get that song out of my head!

P.S. Thanks for the link to that site, Justin. I've found alot of good music there!

You're welcome Lute!

What a weekend!
Highlights for me were Cornmeal, Yonder Mountain String Band, Fishbone, Lynch, Levon Helm, and getting my 100th moe show shout-out before the encore Sunday night!

...and they did play Bear Song.

...at the bottom of the page, and they're all free of course!

Be sure to listen to the announcements after Plane Crash.

I forgot to mention that they also played a great rendition of MacIntyre Range,
...and it was great to see a special guest appearance by Homer Simpson playing the bass guitar during Plane Crash.

Thanks Justin. I haven't heard any new moe in ages. Honestly I haven't really been into them since before Dither. Is any of their new stuff better than that album?

I only saw them once at the Flynn in Burlington. Great show.

Justin there are two download versions on that link. I downloaded the mp3 zip(103 megs). Should I bother with the 320mb version. It must be better quality but how much.

I think so!
2002's Wormwood was my favorite studio album for a while, The Conch is good, but most of the songs on that album they played for 2-4 years before the album came out. Their most recent studio album is Sticks and Stones, and I have 3 or 4 favs on that.
But I'm mostly a fan of the live stuff. They have many live albums, including "L", "Warts and All" (volumes 1 through 5), and the brand new "Dr. Stan's Prescription" - Volume 1 which is from the pool deck show on the 7-day moe.cruise in '04 aboard the Norwegian Sun to the ports of call: Grand Caymen Island, Montego Bay Jamaica, and Cozumel & Costa Maya Mexico. Yep I was there!
And I can't forget about www.archive.org, which has almost every show they ever played (and many other bands too) for free. The collection is getting big!

Thanks for asking, and thanks for the interests!

I should add that I know that moe. is not the greatest band ever in the world, and at times they can be a bit goofy and the vocals can be down right ear aching at times, but I've been a fan since their earlier days, and it's been fun to see their progress over the years, and to be a part of the "community" feel to it all, much like this forum. That's part of why I like to share these fun things that this band does. And not to mention that it is often connected with the Adirondacks. After all, one of the guitarists, Al, is an avid Adirondack recreationalist and a member of this forum. However, he has not posted in nearly 2 years. Maybe I scared him away.

Or maybe it was Redhawk.

J.K. of course!

Sky, I was there too! Moe's Tavern was awesome!

Gregg, sometimes there are multiple recordings. I always download the 64Kbps MP3s. I have trouble with anything else. If nothing else is available yet, wait a couple days.

OMG, Justin, thank you for that link. I'm going to wear out my computer downloading shows. Hank III, Soth Catherine Street Jugband, Nightcrawler. Those are just a few that caught my eye.

Wooohooo!!!!!

I put in my pre-order request at 5:32 Wednesday morning....

A bunch of us are already planning our decent on the mothership, tickets or not. Another group I'm in, the PBs, has been jolted back to life. And, I think I'm gonna have to kick my server back up and put a few classic shows on there, just for hahas (http://sky.etree.org).

Run for the hills, the hippies have returned!! (oh, wait...)
